My sisters post

Hello everyone! This is KELLI, Cari's sister writing all of this.

Cari wanted me to do a post on her blog and let everyone know what has happened to her. So here we go. On Sunday, November 9th Bill and Cari were driving home with their two boys from my moms house out in Milburn. It was dark and they were going around a corner when a cow stepped out into the road (a black one) and the next thing they knew they had hit the cow and gone off of the road. The cow hit Cari's side of the car. It smashed in the front and it's head went through the window then it flipped over, peeled back the roof on caris side and then landed down behind the car. The car then went off the road and into a bush. Bill, Ryan and Kyle were ok, but Cari was badly hurt.

She was taken to a hospital in Mt. Pleasant I think, then from there they life flighted her up to the University of Utah. Cari's right arm is broken, and every bone above her bottom teeth were pretty much smashed. So that means cheekbones, nose and forehead all broken. She had many fractures to the head. Her baby is fine, which is a HUGE blessing!

On Monday she went into surgery and they put metal plates in her forehead. They shaved a couple inches of hair off of her forehead and made a big cut that goes from her right ear to her left ear. They didnt' want to make anymore scars on her face. Oh, and she had to have a blood transfusion during the operation.

They let her rest for a couple of days, then on Thursday she went in for her 2nd surgery. They put about 13-15 metal plates all over her cheekbones, and fixed her nose. They put braces on her, and she will have to wear rubberbands on both sides and in the front. She is pretty swollen, and in a lot of pain but she is a tough chick!! She is healing pretty fast and doing so well that on Saturday night they moved her from the Surgical ICU to the stepdown level. And hopefully she will be able to come home on Thursday this week. The doctor said it was amazing that she is alive. She was millimeters away from dying. She has no brain trauma or damage. Her throat is very sore from being intubated, and it's hard for her to move her jaw, but she can talk a little.

We can't believe this happened, but we are so grateful that she is alive and walking. SO, so many people have been of great help with the kids and with Cari. Bill and Cari have been so grateful for everything that everyone has done for their family.
